Padel in Oxford:
where to play, book & get started.
Oxford's practical padel guide: the closest courts to the centre, what a session costs, how to book and what to bring for a first game.

There are no padel courts in Oxford city centre itself, but two public venues make an easy game from the centre: Smash Padel Oxford on the Botley/North Hinksey side of town, west of the station, and North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club on Banbury Road. Both welcome non-members, so a group of four can book, play and be back in town for lunch or a drink without joining a club.
Padel is usually played as doubles on an enclosed court. The ball may rebound from the glass after it has bounced, which makes the game sociable, quick to pick up and rather more forgiving than it first appears. Book an hour for a fast first try; 90 minutes gives a new group time to settle in.

The simplest first booking
Smash Padel Oxford, Botley / North Hinksey
Smash Padel is the most straightforward option for a first visit. It has three outdoor, panoramic floodlit courts at Oxford Lawn Tennis Club in North Hinksey Village, on the Botley side of Oxford (OX2 0NA), open 7am–10pm every day. There is no membership requirement: use the NETTLA app to book a court, join a public match or find coaching and social sessions. Rackets can be hired for £3 an hour. If your group is entirely new to padel, the venue also advertises a free introductory session and beginner coaching.Check availability with Smash Padel
A good off-peak option
North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club, Banbury Road
North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club is just north of Summertown at Banbury Road North Sports Ground, 546 Banbury Road (OX2 8EQ). Its new padel courts are bookable by non-members through ClubSpark up to five days ahead. Published non-member prices are £24 an hour off-peak (weekdays 9am–4pm) and £32 an hour at peak times; split four ways, that works out at £6–£8 each for an hour. Rackets can be hired and balls bought at the clubhouse.Book North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club
Booking without faff
Plan the session around four players
Padel is at its best with four players. Choose a 60-minute session if everyone has played before, or 90 minutes for beginners. Evening and weekend slots are generally the most sought-after, so create the relevant booking account before you need it and look a few days ahead. The courts in Oxford are outdoors: check the weather, especially in winter, and bring a waterproof layer for the walk to and from court.
First-game essentials
What to wear and how to start
Wear trainers with a stable, grippy sole and clothes you can move in. Avoid very soft, high-soled running shoes if you can: short lateral movements are part of the game. Bring water, hire a padel racket if needed and use padel balls rather than tennis balls. Begin with ordinary doubles scoring, serve underarm and below waist height, and remember that the glass only comes into play after the ball has bounced on your side. Keep the first game relaxed; long rallies arrive faster than you expect.
Make a day of it
A simple city-centre plan
For a low-fuss Oxford afternoon, take an early court at Smash Padel, then head back towards the station and centre for lunch. For a weekday session with the lowest published court cost, choose North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club between 9am and 4pm. If you do not have a full group, look for a public match or social session at Smash rather than booking a court you cannot fill.
Editor’s note
Before you book
Prices, court availability, coaching sessions and weather policies can change. Confirm the live price, equipment availability and any cancellation terms in the venue's booking system before paying.
Neither venue is in the pedestrianised city centre, so allow travel time. A taxi or bike is usually simplest for the Botley/North Hinksey venue; North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club is on the Banbury Road corridor north of Summertown.
