Brookes Climb in Headington
The official facilities page lists three bouldering zones, 22 lead lines, 12 top-rope lines and three auto-belays. The lead tower is 11 metres high. Use the centre’s current admission and opening information to plan your visit.
First visit
Registration before climbing
Adult users must register and complete the participation agreement, including relevant induction videos. Beginners can use the bouldering areas. To use the roped walls independently, you must declare that you’re competent and bring your own safety equipment. Book instruction if you are new.
On your own
Bouldering or auto-belays
You can visit without a climbing partner for bouldering or selected auto-belay lines. You’ll still need the correct induction and equipment before using an auto-belay. Learn how the system works before climbing.
With children
Choose a suitable family session
The centre admits children from age three under its supervision rules. A registered adult can supervise up to two under-18s. Larger groups need an organised session. Ask the centre which introduction suits your children’s ages before arriving.
After the session
South Park and East Oxford
Headington puts you near South Park, with views back towards the city. If you want a meal or film afterwards, continue towards Cowley Road and Jeune Street, allowing time for the walk and your booking.

Brookes hires climbing shoes, but not harnesses, belay devices or lead ropes. Equipment is provided on instructor-led courses. Independent roped climbers must bring suitable kit and meet the centre’s competence requirements.

Do I have to be a Brookes student to climb?
The centre provides adult registration, beginner sessions and group bookings. Check the current admission option and price for your visit with Brookes Sport.
Can I arrive without a harness and climb?
You can hire shoes for bouldering. For independent roped climbing, you need your own harness and suitable safety kit. Instructor-led courses provide equipment.
Can I climb without a partner?
Yes, through bouldering or the selected auto-belay lines, after meeting the centre’s registration, induction and equipment requirements.
How should I plan an outdoor climbing trip?
Plan outdoor trips separately using a current crag guide and access notices. Choose rock, protection and weather conditions that suit your experience, with time for the journey and a change of plan.
