The Cherwell gives you the archetypal narrow punt beneath trees and college edges. The Thames is broader, calmer in character and better suited to cruises, rowing boats and motor boats.

Choose the Cherwell for low branches, college glimpses and classic punt technique. Keep the pole on the riverbed side of the boat and never wrap it in your hands if it sticks.

Self-hire from Folly Bridge
Salter’s offers punts, rowing boats and self-drive motorboats from the Thames. A one-hour hire suits a first taste; longer bookings make room for a picnic and Iffley-bound exploring.

Charter the whole boat
