Compare the market and campus options

Find your workspace
Libraries first, cafés second
Check which university libraries your card opens. Oxford Central Library in Westgate is a public alternative. Ask about laptops and busy periods before settling into a café. For a quiet study session, a library may be a better choice.Find an independent coffee stop →
Protect your bike
Lock the frame and register it
Use a strong D-lock to secure the frame to a fixed rack, with a second lock for a wheel if possible. Record the frame number and use BikeRegister. Check your accommodation’s secure storage before leaving a bike out overnight.

Understand sub fusc before buying
Oxford University requires academic dress for matriculation, exams and degree ceremonies. The right gown depends on your status. Follow the university’s full sub fusc rules and ask your college about second-hand options. Brookes freshers do not need this Oxford University kit.

A film or gig beyond campus

Oxford University’s main teaching period, Full Term, lasts eight weeks. Arrival and freshers’ activities may fall in the preceding 0th week. Brookes follows a different calendar, and some Oxford courses have different dates.
If work, money or settling in feels difficult, use your university’s support services. Contact your Oxford college welfare team or Brookes student support. You don’t have to manage on your own.

Is a bicycle essential?

How can I keep food costs down?
