A Hundred Strings in Oxford: Two Strings, One Pulse

Sitar, santoor and tabla at the Holywell Music Room. Adnan Khan, a Grammy-nominated sitarist, plays in the gayaki ang, which shapes the sitar after the singing voice. Vinay Desai plays the santoor, the hundred-stringed instrument of Kashmir, as a direct disciple of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. Ustad Akram Khan, the seventh generation of his family in the Ajrada gharana, plays tabla for both halves. Adnan plucks his strings and slides between notes; Vinay strikes his and moves in runs, so the two take different routes through the same raga. Doors 6.45pm, music 7pm to 9.30pm GMT. Tickets £25 early bird until 3 November, then £30; students £20. Presented by KalaSudha.
