At Jack we’re different. There’s a chance you may have heard we only have one show weekdays which is breakfast.... But we believe we have become Oxfordshire’s Most Local Radio Station in less than 18 months onair.
We believe a good song is a good song, it doesn’t matter who sings it or when it was released. If we hear a good song, we play it, we don’t have to wait to see if someone in London will give us approval to. We also support new upcoming local bands, having added music from bands such as Inlight and The Ryes. We are a slightly Rock based station (thus our early success with the fellers)… We’re the radio station with thousands of active songs in our playlist... We sit the Beatles beside The Kaiser Chiefs, or Boney M beside Nickleback.
But what we’re proud of the most is how we’ve managed to show that you CAN buck all the current radio trends and be successful. We DO play a huge playlist of music, we DO do local news bulletins all day every day, we have hourly traffic and travel bulletins from a plane, we do ‘what’s ons’ every hour… We support local charities... and we run social awareness campaigns such as supporting our local troops in Afghanistan.
We believe we are a truly local, fun, radio station who - God forbid, still manages to play more music than any other commercial radio station in the country!!
At Jack, we play so much music we only have room for four shows: Monday to Friday 6-9AM there’s Jack’s Morning Glory – Jack’s Breakfast Show with Trevor Marshall, Sue Carter, Greg Burke and That Geeky Guy called Glynn are Jack's Morning Glory. On Saturday we have Jack’s Morning Glory Tasty Bits from 9AM – 11AM – Interviews and best bits from the week, Hourly News and Traffic, ‘What’s On in Oxfordshire' aka ‘Jacktivities’ and topical sweepers. On Sunday from 9AM-12PM there’s The Sunday Roast With Phil Angell & Ali Booker (Co-Host and News Reader) - the only real constant in the show is Oxfordshire. The Sunday Roast is about celebrating the good, glorious, and the frankly gaga about the county we live in.
And, of course, being the largest sponsor of Oxford United, there’s Jack’s Big Banana Football Show - on anytime there’s an Oxford United game, home or away. Jack FM's dedicated football show with live commentary from Oxford United's home and away matches is a show produced for the fans and presented by the fans, no fan bigger than Andrew ‘Selfy’ Self.
We also have local traffic up to every 15 minutes, local mews up to every half an hour as well as local ‘what’s on’ bulletins advertising non profit events for free (at freeads@jackfm.co.uk) called Jacktivities – so popular it’s found its way into Oxfordshire slang.
The rest of the time, there’s music. All 80s on a Sunday, the rest of the time just good. And what we want to play.
